The Joshua Tree sunglasses are round walnut wood frames with polarized UV400 lenses, named after the high desert park where two deserts meet and built for the kind of light you only get out there. We made them for the people who chase that wide-open quiet, on the trails, on the climbs, and on the long drive in along Twentynine Palms Highway. This is the story of the place and the frame that carries its name.
Joshua Tree: Where the Mojave Meets the Colorado
Joshua Tree National Park sits where two desert ecosystems overlap, the higher, cooler Mojave to the west and the lower Colorado Desert to the east. The Joshua trees themselves, those twisting yucca that gave the park its name, only grow in the Mojave side, which is why the landscape shifts so completely as you move across the park. Granite monoliths rise out of the flats, and the rock turns gold at the end of the day.
The desert light is a different animal. There is almost no humidity to soften it, so the sun comes through sharp and the glare comes off pale sand, bare granite, and dry washes from every angle. Midday it is flat and blinding. Late afternoon it goes warm and long. Spend a day out there squinting and you feel it behind your eyes by the time the stars come out. That environment is exactly what shaped how we built this frame.
Why We Built the Joshua Tree Frame in Round Walnut Wood
Every Cali Life Co. frame is named after a California place, and the design follows the place. We do not pick a name and put it on a generic frame. We start with the location, the light, and the lifestyle, then we build for it.
For Joshua Tree, the call was round walnut wood:
- Round shape. It echoes the smooth, weathered curves of the granite boulders and the soft horizon line of the high desert. Round frames also sit easy on the face for long days outdoors, and they read relaxed and a little artistic, which is the whole vibe of the place.
- Walnut wood. A warm, dark grain that suits a landscape full of earth tones and old wood. Real wood handles dry desert heat without the cheap feel of plastic, and every pair has its own grain pattern, so no two Joshua Tree frames are exactly alike.
- Polarized UV400 lenses. This is the non-negotiable. Polarized lenses cut the harsh glare bouncing off sand and granite, so you see clean contrast on the trail, on the rock, and on the highway. Full UVA and UVB protection comes standard, which matters more at desert elevation where the sun hits harder.
The result is a frame that earns its name. It is built for the place it is named after, not just decorated with it.
Who the Joshua Tree Frame Is For
This one is for the desert wanderers, the climbers, the campers, and anyone who likes a softer, rounder look. Round frames flatter square, rectangular, and angular face shapes especially well, since the curve balances a stronger jaw. The walnut keeps it warm and grounded. The round keeps it easy.
Wear it with a worn-in tee and a flannel for the campground, or with a linen shirt and shorts when the desert heat climbs. It looks at home around a fire pit and just as right in town afterward.
